Irish Cement Platin Works has successfully commissioned its new rooftop solar panels. James Weir, Environmental Manager in Platin said, “Ireland’s solar output is highly seasonal due to longer daylight hours with around 70% of annual solar electricity generated from April to September. We are looking forward to seeing how well the panels perform over the summer. Secure, decarbonised renewable energy sources like these are vital for Platin and this project supports both our decarbonisation and competitiveness goals.”
The idea for the project came from the site itself and was delivered by the Platin Projects Team, and involved the installation of 1MW of solar arrays across two buildings on site. The power generated is used directly on site, feeding straight into our electricity supply.
