While in secondary school, I always had an interest in electrical work; be it in physics or engineering. After finishing my Leaving Certificate, I saw an ad for Irish Cement Limited Limerick and I applied. Upon starting I began being trained by all the electricians in the workshop who showed the basic and more useful skills needed in the trade. All the electricians in Irish Cement are very skilled and great at teaching newcomers. Working on this plant I have been able to learn a lot about motor maintenance, control systems and fault finding. I believe this apprenticeship is more profiting than a college course because there is a lot of hands-on experience with it and Irish Cement does an excellent job at providing such.
