Irish Cement has invested in technology over the years to conserve water.
The “Dry Process technology” at Platin and Limerick is long established, where minimal amounts of water are used in the manufacturing process. Further initiatives include water recycling and closed loop water systems which reduce water consumption in the manufacturing process.
To minimise public water consumption, Irish Cement uses water from the quarry dewatering pumps and use this water in the process for cooling, dust suppression and cleaning services. This significantly reduces the requirement of public mains water.
In 2025, we carried out our annual water risk assessment using the World Resources Institute (WRI) Aqueduct Risk Atlas Tool to evaluate potential exposure across our locations. All sites were determined to be in areas of low / medium risk of water scarcity.
