At Irish Cement, we can enhance the circular economy by optimising resources and minimising waste.
Alternative Raw Materials and Alternative Fuels are often by-products from other industries which complement cement product quality and optimise circularity. There is a considerable circularity benefit in diverting alternatives away from landfill, in turn contributing positively to the Government’s National Waste Management Plan for a Circular Economy. In addition, alternatives displace a portion of our local natural resources and so preserve fossil fuels and virgin raw materials.
Ten Circularity Initiatives
Irish Cement has identified ten circularity initiatives:
- Alternative raw materials reuse.
- Alternative Fuel reuse.
- Low carbon cements and supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs).
- Wooden pallets reuse.
- Intermediatory process waste reuse.
- Quarry water reuse in the manufacturing process.
- REPAK membership for packaging recycling
- Waste segregation and recycling offsite with licenced waste contractors.
- Automation and AI systems reduce operational variability and waste.
- High-quality cement delivering strength, consistency, and durability.
