Irish Cement has long focused on energy management due to the nature of the energy intensive manufacturing process. Good energy management delivers reduced costs, reduced emissions and strengthened security of energy supplies.

Traditionally, Irish Cement purchased all its electricity from electricity suppliers operating in the all-island wholesale Single Electricity Market (SEM). Included in this purchased electricity is a portion of green electricity which comes from renewables such as solar, wind and geothermal generation. The remaining portion comes from non-renewable sources such as fossil fuels.
