Part of Protecting Our Natural World
Biodiversity
At Irish Cement, we know biodiversity drives resilient ecosystems and long-term business success. We aim to protect habitats and all living species on our sites, adapting operations to offer more sustainable solutions. Conserving and enhancing biodiversity has become an increasingly important focus at our locations, through collaboration with partners and applying our own expertise.
As custodians of the land where we are located, and as responsible neighbours, we aim to protect and improve the area and to enhance its biodiversity for the future.

Air Emissions
Irish Cement continues to adhere to strict air emission limits. The Environmental Protection Agency sets air emission limits in Industrial Emissions (IE) licences at both Platin and Limerick. We aim to implement the Best Available Technologies (BAT) to improve environmental performance and meet licence requirements, including investing in abatement systems and maintaining equipment across our manufacturing sites.

Significant BAT investment has been carried out over the years, resulting in emissions reductions.
These investments include:
- A new modern, energy efficient “Kiln 3” at Platin
- Selective Non-Catalytic Reduction (SNCR) systems for NOx abatement in Platin and Limerick
- Bag Filters for Particulates abatement in both Platin and Limerick
Measures to control unintended (fugitive) emissions include enclosed storage, dust-suppression systems, continuous monitoring, and site infrastructure improvements.
